Humanitarian Mapping Activities for Nepal
Overview
Humanitarian mapping activities for Nepal earthquake relief. We will be using OpenStreetMap platform to add more detail for affected parts of Nepal. These details include marking outlines for buildings, roads, bridges, and other landmarks to help improve map detail. These maps are used by relief agencies in their effort to provide disaster relief. Read more about the process at https://www.mapbox.com/blog/mapping-nepal/
Check-in at Room 202, Business building, main campus SFSU.
Anyone can volunteer - students, staff, faculty, non-SFSU people. There is a short training session to get started. You can come by and get trained in the morning session (9:00 AM to 12:00 PM timeframe), and can either continue in the afternoon (12PM to 5PM) with us on campus to start mapping, or train others. Once you know enough about how this works, you can also host your own mapping sessions.
This event is open to all. Please RSVP on Eventbrite. so we have better information to manage resources on our end. Many thanks to College of Business, IT Services, SFSU Library and the SFSU community to pull this event together in a matter of hours! Come by and learn to map. Help the good people of Nepal in yet another way.
